Why Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center?

Experienced Surgeon

Dr. Jeffrey Ahn, the medical director at Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center, is a double board-certified surgeon in both Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery who has served as a full-time faculty member at Columbia University for twenty years. He also served as the Director of Sleep Disorder & Robotic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center for ten years.

Dr. Ahn has performed over 4,000 endoscopic sinus surgeries with an excellent safety track record. He is also one of the first surgeons in the world to perform robotic surgery for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and has performed more TORS for OSA than anyone else in New York since 2011. Dr. Ahn currently serves as a clinical faculty member in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine.

“Packing-less” nasal/sinus surgery

The most uncomfortable aspect of the traditional nasal or sinus surgery experience is having the nasal packing after the surgery, and its subsequent removal on a post-op visit, which can be quite painful. At Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center, we employ a technique that eliminates the need for nasal packing, sparing our patients unnecessary pain and discomfort.

Fusion Navigation ENT System

CT navigation system is used in all the sinus surgeries performed at Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center. Known as the most advanced navigation system for sinus surgery, Fusion CT Navigator uses harmless electromagnetic field technology to visualize the surgical field. Its function may be compared to the GPS system in automobiles, allowing the surgeon to perform the most accurate and thorough sinus cleaning. Most importantly, Fusion Navigation strongly boosts the safety level of sinus surgery, a delicate procedure around the important structures of the head, thus minimizing the risk of complications.

Microdebrider System with built-in cautery

At Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center, we use a microdebrider system with built-in cautery that minimizes post-operative bleeding and crusting in the nose, allowing for the shortest possible recovery time from sinus and turbinate surgeries. More importantly, this technique maximizes the likelihood of the patient being able to freely breathe through the nose immediately after the surgery to avoid the claustrophobic discomfort of complete nasal obstruction.

Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon Sinuplasty is a newly developed procedure that utilizes balloon technology to enlarge the natural openings into the sinuses. When selected appropriately, this can be the safest and least invasive procedure for relieving the symptoms of chronic sinusitis or recurrent acute sinusitis. Dr. Jeffrey Ahn was among the first surgeons in New York to begin performing this surgery ten years ago, making him one of its most experienced practitioners. Balloon Sinuplasty, using a small, flexible balloon catheter to open up blocked sinus passageways, facilitates drainage of the mucus from the diseased sinuses and also improves their ventilation. Balloon Sinuplasty can be performed either independently or in conjunction with endoscopic sinus surgery.

A private surgery center of unparalleled safety

Park Avenue Sinus & Sleep Center has a dedicated private ambulatory surgery center that is fully accredited by both the AAAHC and the AAAASF for the highest possible level of patient safety. Typically, no more than two sinus patients are treated at our surgery center on any given day, ensuring that each of our patients receives the highest possible level of individual attention. The privacy of our private ambulatory surgery center protects patients from potential patient mix-ups and hospital-acquired infections that may occur in larger hospital settings.

Experienced anesthesiologists

The anesthesia team working in our center consists of board-certified anesthesiologists trained at Columbia University Medical Center and Mount Sinai Medical Center. There are no anesthesiologists in training or nurse anesthetists at our surgery center– only physicians with impeccable safety record and extensive experience in handling patients with challenging airways.
